Copley Connect was a 10-day pop-up park that transformed a one-block portion of Dartmouth Street in Boston into a vibrant public space connecting Boston Public Library with Copley Square. Our firm led the design, fabrication, and installation of the urban intervention, drawing inspiration from the iconic arches of the Boston Public Library and the nearby Trinity Church. We fabricated modular benches that could be reconfigured for diverse scheduled programming; from dance lessons and concerts to quiet reading and remote work. Working with the City of Boston, BPDA, and Boston Public Library, we facilitated extensive measured community engagement with over 1,100 surveys, preference voting games, and camera-based usage analysis to provide data-driven insights about how people used the space. Copley Connect helped to inform the city’s planning for this critical connection between two of Boston’s most beloved public spaces.
